The market size of Biotechnology industry is growing far more than before. As per reports from 2015-20 the Biotechnology industry grew more than double from US$ 30.2 billion to US$ 70.2 billion in five years. This expansion clearly indicates the future prospects can be much better. It is growing with an exceptional rate.
As we can see that the industry valuation is increasing rapidly. The bio economy is projected to increase at an exceptional rate. Talking of 2021, the industry contributes to 2.6% of the GDP in India. The market size is increasing so is employment and opportunities.
Career options and opportunities
Before anything else you must be clear about the course you can pursue and the career opportunities you will get as per your interest. There are different aspects of the career in Biotechnology and there are different courses available as well.

- B.Tech,M.Tech,PhD
So, in B.Sc you will not get an industrial aspect to much aspect compared to B.Tech and there is a difference of 1 year curriculum due to a reason. In B.Tech you will get to learn diverse subjects right from the starting, you will get some extra edge in other streams as well like Computer Science, Mechanics, Electrical engineering etc. to a basic level that can be applied in industrial applications. These all will be missed in the B.Sc part.
Coming to M.Sc and M.Tech both are masters degree but wit a little difference. Same as above the M.Tech is more on the industrial side than the M.Sc but mostly it is similar. Research is basically the theme of both courses.
You need to do PhD if you wish to make your career in Research and development, academics and so on. It is very much important to make a clear mind. You need to dedicate time for the same.
This is all about the courses. Talking of opportunities a graduate and/or P.G. degree is enough for an industrial job. You need to develop skills, practical knowledge during your studies so that you can get better opportunities. Companies and industrial exposure during the studies will be a boon in making a career in industry. There are several different departments where you can enter like Quality Assurance, Quality control, Production, Regulatory Affairs, Research and development and may more with diverse classifications. The second one is PhD. You can either make a career in Research and development, Academics in both Government as well as private sector. You must qualify national level entrance exams conducted by institutes like CSIR-NET, ICAR, ICMR for much better opportunities.
